Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend EVOLVE?

Any Iowa student in grades 9-12 is eligible to apply for the EVOLVE program. Students who are not residents of the Mount Ayr Community School District would need to fill out an open enrollment form. There is no deadline for open enrollment into the EVOLVE program.

How do I apply for EVOLVE?

The first step is to contact the EVOLVE administrator, Mr. Josh Vanderflught, at [email protected]. Mr. Vanderflught will then discuss the enrollment process, which includes an application to the program, a transcript audit to ensure graduation requirements will be met, and an open enrollment form if needed.

If I open enroll, can I still participate in activities?

You can participate in activities in two ways. First, you could participate in any activities that the Mount Ayr Community School District offers. This includes co-curricular and/or extra-curricular activities. Second, you can be an EVOLVE student and participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in your home district.

If I am an EVOLVE student, will I earn a high school diploma?

All students who are fully enrolled in the EVOLVE program will meet the graduation requirements set forth by the Mount Ayr Community School District. EVOLVE students will graduate with a Mount Ayr High School diploma if they have met all graduation requirements.

What courses are offered?

EVOLVE students are offered a variety of core (math, ELA, science, social studies), CTE, and other elective courses. EVOLVE staff members will meet with each student and family to design a schedule each semester.
